What the finished cut face reveals

The layers make the cake recognisable

A clean cut reveals the repeated bands and makes the structure easy to see. The fine, dense crumb holds the slice together without feeling like a light sponge cake.

Layers

Each thin layer is cooked before the next is added.

Texture

Rich and compact, making a small slice satisfying.

Spice

Warm aromatic notes balance the buttery cake.

Original, Prune and 3-in-1

One method, different flavour additions

Original keeps the classic buttery spice. Prune adds pieces of fruit. 3-in-1 separates Original, Prune and Haw Flakes into three sections.

Cutting the layered edge neatly

Small slices suit the texture

Use a clean, sharp knife and wipe the blade between cuts when needed. Thin pieces show the bands clearly and suit the cake's rich texture.
